Clarinet

The clarinet is a musical instrument, considered to be a woodwind type of instrument because of the way music is made with a single-reed mouthpiece. In order to produce sound the clarinetist blows into the mouthpiece and uses their fingers to play the rings and keys to produce different sounds. The clarinet body is made up of the mouthpiece, barrel, upper joint, keys, pads, lower joint, and bell. It consists of several parts, usually made of black grenadilla wood and silver-plated keys. From a distance the instrument may look similar to an oboe. In contrast to the oboe's thin double reed, looking like a straw, the clarinet has got a wide mouthpiece with a single reed fixed onto it. Furthermore it has got a cylindrical bore, that is, the full length is of the same diameter (except for the very lower end called the bell), much in contrast to most other wind instruments. There are also a variety of clarinet types including the piccolo clarinet, the B-flat clarinet, the bass clarinet, the contrabass clarinet and more.
