Percussion instruments

The percussion instruments are split into 3 broad families: Mallets, Drums and Auxiliary Percussion. A percussion instrument is any instrument that can produce a sound when it is hit, shaken, or scraped. A percussionist has to learn different types of instruments unlike the rest of the members. Percussion instruments help to keep rhythm and produce sound to bring more colour to the band's pieces.

Mallets

Mallet instruments are percussion instruments that produce a melodic sound when it is hit with mallets. The pitch and volume of the sound can be changed by hitting hard or soft on the mallets. Here in our band, we have mallet instruments including the Xylophone, Marimba, Glockenspiel, and Tubular Bells. The Xylophone and Marimba consist of wooden bars while Glockenspiel and Tubular Bells consist of metal bars.

Drums

Drums are percussion instruments that makes a sound when a player strikes the drum head. There are different kinds of drums, from Snare Drums, Bass Drum, Timbale, Timpani, the Drumset and more. Drums provide the rhythm, tempo and giving the band a fuller and richer sound.

Auxiliary Percussion

Auxiliary instruments instruments that produce special sound effects. They may seem as 'toys' but they play a significant role to the percussion section and band. These instruments do not need to be tuned. Auxiliary instruments include the Triangle, Cymbal, Tambourine and Shaker.
